My accidental extended trip to Portugal
29th March 2017
Due to erm, 'human error' when I was booking my flight to Lisbon, I some how managed to accidentally book 10 days instead of the intended 5 days! Well, it was in the early morning and I was still up and you know what happens when you have hundreds of webpage tabs open from all the flight & accommodation deal pop up windows opening. So in the middle of all that page chaos and probably through sleep depravation, I ended up on clicking 'confirm' on my EasyJet booking on a return date that wasn't the one I had in mind! After letting out a shriek, a few expletives which I won't repeat here, and reading EasyJet's T&C regarding cancellations, I realised that I was better off just accepting my fate of a longer (and more expensive) trip than planned, suck it up and to just make the most of it!
Anyway, the point I am trying to make, now that I am back from my venture to Portugal, is that every cloud has a silver lining! Had I not made that late night, booking mistake, I would not have added the 3-day excursion to Porto, nor had any time to do some of the extra things I did like have breakfast at Pastéis de Belém, then spend a full day in Belem visiting museums, having lunch by the Tagus River Marina, or a Sunday just riding the Lisbon metro network and exploring the cool architecture at some metro stations I had read about. With several memory cards full of photos, I returned to London with a sense of fulfilment & achievement from the trip. Life lessons - Life's too short to book short trips – if you can, extend them and see more of the world (even if by accident!)🙂
