We Shoot People Meetup - New Organiser
03rd March 2017 - 0 comments
Five years after starting up We Shoot People, (the first ever street photography Meetup group in London), I have decided, after great consideration to close the group. This is simply due to my recent increased work schedule no longer allowing me the time to dedicate to running it anymore.

Though very sad to be giving up my lil group, it is with fond memories and the continued support & ongoing friendships through the group that I still value. Not to mention, the great opportunities given to me thanks to We Shoot People, including hosting a master of photography John Free while he did his London workshops & his continued friendship and mentoring, my participation in the London Photo Festival over several years, and most recent and exciting project of being one of the first, official Airbnb Experience Hosts in London, with my 'Always Look Twice' Trip Experience that I have been hosting since August 2016. As they say, as one door closes another one opens, so onwards and upwards. Thank you to all the members who joined me to close to 100 photo walks around London!

The Update: the group still lives on, a new organiser will continue to run the group, but as of March 2017 I will no longer organise events under the We Shoot People Meetup umbrella. However, in the not too decent future, I hope to organise some new and exciting photo tours & walks under a new venture. Watch this space!
Brick Lane street photography Walk - We Shoot People Group
19th June 2016 - 0 comments

Just back from a great photo walk event around Brick Lane, with my street photography group We Shoot People. It was cool to see lots of new faces and of course the regulars who attended today. See some of their cool photos here. I noticed it was slightly quieter than usual for a Sunday, maybe because folks were out about celebrating Fathers Day. Made it a bit easier to get some clean compositional street shots! Here are a few pics I took earlier today.

Next event up is our Camden photo walk on 25th June 2016!

Columbia Road Flower Market - Street Photography
09th May 2016 - 0 comments

It was such a lovely sunny hot day at Columbia Road Flower Market yesterday! I love it down there - always a great buzz and atmosphere when the flower sellers are in action. I hosted a Sunday afternoon, street photography Meetup with my group We Shoot People. It was great fun hanging out with some lovely group members. Shame the weathers gone to pot today with the rain - typical British Summer! :)

David Bowie memorial Brixton London
23rd January 2016 - 0 comments

David Bowie memorial Brixton London

I had a scheduled photo walk Meetup with We Shoot People in Brixton this Saturday afternoon with We Shoot People. So, thought I would get there ahead of schedule to pay a visit to the Bowie memorial wall first as I felt I needed to go and say goodbye to the Starman.

I was pretty taken aback to be honest with the ever growing shrine of flowers, fan memorabilia, & personal gifts left by mourning fans, two weeks on from his passing on 10th January 2016. I saw a few people in tears, still adding tribute messages on the walls by the artwork mural. Sad, reflective, overwhelming, but amazing love in the air for the David Bowie. You are truly missed.
Covent Garden Meetup - London Street Photography
13th January 2016 - 0 comments

Happy New Year! T'was my first Meetup of 2016 with the We Shoot People group, after a break over the festive holidays. Amazing how short a time it takes for you to get rusty with the eyes, (well for me anyway). Well, it wasn't long before I was back in a zone, after first warming up my camera with some test shots and most importantly warming ME up, it was cold out there tonight. Frozen hands and cameras just do not go!

An hour and a half goes by very quickly in street photography world, but with a full house of freezing cold new members thinking about a pub to warm up in, the photo walk ended on a high with a great social drink and a nice start to the new year.

Covent Garden Street Photography - London Meetup
18th November 2015 - 0 comments

I hosted another Wednesday Meetup event in central London with my amateur street photography group We Shoot People. This time we explored the areas around Seven Dials, Covent Garden, Leicester Square & Chinatown which are always full of night life subjects and great light.

It never fails to make me smile when new members, (who join one of my photo walks for the first time) ask me what they are meant to be visually looking out for and for creative ideas to start them off, and then watching them get so into 'the zone' that only a street photographer can, once they start to get it! I love seeing their confidence grow over a short space of time. Often even before the event is over they are asking "So, when's the next photo walk?!"
Soho Street Photography - We Shoot People Meetup
11th November 2015 - 0 comments

I arranged another Soho street photography session with We Shoot People Meetup members on Wednesday. For those who attend, unfamiliar with the concept of going out after dark to shoot street, I see the slight apprehension in their eyes when I explain what my night photo walks are about.

They have grasped day time shooting and their camera settings, but get them to see the world with low light and push their cameras to the max, work with just the natural lighting around (no flashes, no tripods), just a prime lens and you have a new way of thinking. Not only have you got to find interesting subjects or content, but you also have to be alert about the best way to capture your composition in terms of avoiding it being too dark, too blown out, too blurred because you have not had to push your camera that far before. I find it sharpens your photography skills, focuses your eyes and keeps you on your toes.
Brick Lane Meetup - London Street Photography
25th October 2015 - 0 comments
Brick Lane is always a popular East London destination with the We Shoot People Meetup Group. We were back this Sunday for another street photography walk and met some interesting people along the way.

I find when I'm in this part of town hosting an event, that street portraits are the most popular style of street photography that students concentrate on. On a Sunday, I'm sure people get dressed up especially just to be seen. I think subjects who frequent this area, know by now that street photographers hang out in Brick Lane and so you can usually get any shots you want without any hassle, especially if you are new to street photography and want to build your confidence in taking photos of strangers in public.

Soho Street Photography - (Rain or Shine)
21st October 2015 - 0 comments
With our Great British unpredictable weather, any day is a new fresh canvas on which to paint with light, especially when pre-organising a street photography photo walk in London!

I guess that's just part of fun of street photography - every moment, every second things are changing and moving, along with this you will compete with the lighting conditions, weather conditions which can and will change as you proceed. It is up to you to stay focused and grab these moments. The challenge is to make a image that gives the viewer something special to look at, knowing you nailed that shot the best you could.

Another Wednesday, another fun evening out with members of my Meetup group 'We Shoot People'. This time I took them to the heart of London, Soho. The title of this event was aptly called 'Soho Street Safari - Rain or Shine' (mainly just to cover all bases!), we got relatively lucky (depending on how you view rain and photography)... it HAD been raining all that day and had stopped by the time we started the walk, so the streets were still wet and glistening and with the neon and bright lights of Soho, made for some potential, great opportunities to get creative.

I always try and give new group members some creative ideas and inspiration as night photography is particularly challenging for beginners. I was chasing light as is my usual task... and Soho did not disappoint. I am sure I am not the only person who gets excited over puddles?! but this one was perfect! It was making some beautiful reflections of the Miss Saigon musical sign shining down from the theatre, and as soon as I showed everyone this puddle and what they could do with it composition wise, I could see their eyes light up.

After spending quite some time in this street, (I had to literally drag some of the members away from this puddle!). We ventured on exploring and capturing more moments and sights of Soho, before ending the evening walk in a cosy little pub for a social drink. By the sound of things, everyone had a fun night! :-)

It was good to try the "street at night" and I did enjoy the evening. Great to meet you all and thanks for the company! David McK

Had a great time, and it was a pleasure to meet you all... Ilyas A

Mayfair Light Chasing - London Street Photography
14th October 2015 - 0 comments
For the past few weeks, I have been organising a mid-week, after work photo walk with my Meetup group We Shoot People. Yesterday I took group members to Mayfair, central London to explore night street shooting. As you know if you follow my stuff, I am a 'light chaser' and so nighttime street photography is fun but challenging and I love to utilise the given light available to make creative street images. This style usually works best when the image is processed in black and white to give a noir feeling to a shot.

© Linda Wisdom

It was fun showing the attendees my favourite locations and inspiring them to experiment and opening their eyes just a little. Many first time street photographers are more used to holiday 'snap shot' type images or understand street photography to mean just getting street portraits during day light hours. A few of the attendees expressed that they had never come out for a night street photography event, so I felt like I was really showing them a whole new world. Once I gave them a few pointers and helped them optimise their camera settings to accommodate the lower light, they were off shooting enthusiastically with their newfound creative way of looking at the world at night.

Many thanks for a pleasant evening. Thanks for your tips and showing us around some great night time shooting spots. Angelo Gifford

During the walk through some back streets, I stopped to take some photos of a smooth concrete wall that immediately caught my attention because of the moving car lights reflecting shadows and silhouettes of people walking past and some stationary bicycles. One of the attendees said that they would have walked right past and wouldn't have thought to take a photo. Another member expressed frustration in not seeing 'interesting' stuff, which is a common query that I get enquiries about very often.

There are many tips and tricks that I teach through my 1-2-1 street photography workshops, which can help you train your eyes to start to see more opportunities, add dynamic to your compositions, help you think creatively and make stronger photos. The most important part of that tuition, is going out with your camera as often as possible and practicing as much as you can what you have learnt. Over a matter of time, trials and errors you WILL start to see things around you in a whole new light.
Covent Garden - London photography
23rd September 2015 - 0 comments
This Wednesday evening I took beginners from my We Shoot People photography Meetup group to Covent Garden . Lots of well lit areas around here so no real problems when the natural light starts to dip around 7pm. For some of the beginners it was their first time in a group shoot and weren't sure what they should be looking out for and were a little nervous about photographing strangers. After a little pep talk, come creative inspiration and a quick demonstration on how to get up close to subjects, off they went! I think they will be hooked on street photography from now on.

Really enjoyed the Meetup. Hope to make it for the 3rd October meeting. Jose Masana

Very friendly. Good fun Raymond

Beginner photo walk 2 - London Street Photography
16th September 2015 - 0 comments
Today was the 2nd of the set of four beginner London street photography walk events I announced on my We Shoot People Meetup group page.

The group now has over 2000 members. A small group of us met in Soho, London for my 'Street Safari 2'. Unfortunately for some (but not for me) it was p**ing down with rain all day and didn't stop. Those who know me know that I LOVE my rain and umbrella shots, so I waited in the assigned meeting point thinking that one no one would show up. Good on the guys who did, who saw the creative potential of rain to enhance their street photography images. Sticking to a route that included shelter points, and what looked like a river aka a giant puddle, we got the shots that we wanted and had a great evening shoot. No cameras were harmed in the making of this event.

The next mid week beginner photo walk event is next week. To RSVP, simply join group by clicking the link above and sign up to one of the forthcoming photo walk events.

There will also be some intermediate level street photography photo walks being announced too, including one that is already live and set for Sunday, 20th September in Brick Lane area.

For all enquiries including my 1-2-1 London street photography workshops, please get in touch via my contact page!

We Shoot People - Night photo walk #5 - Soho Pt2
03rd December 2014 - 0 comments
Our most recent We Shoot People street photography walk was back in Soho last night. Seeing as it as so popular last event, I created a 2nd photo walk to Soho to give some other members a chance to attend. The event filled up almost immediately again!

The area is filled with street photography opportunities, the night challenge isn't as difficult there as there are plenty of nicely lit interesting shops, gallerias and back streets.

Some shots from that night...

We Shoot People - Night photo walk #4 - Covent Garden
26th November 2014 - 0 comments
Another week, another We Shoot People Meetup event in London. This time we ventured to the area in and around Covent Garden, London. A great street photography night location just after rush hour which was major hectic at the time we met!

Great group of Meetup attendees and a fun shoot. It rained a bit, but just enough to get some creative shots.

The next Meetup event is in...... Soho, its a part 2 event as the first one was so popular I arranged another one!

Some pics from Covent Garden...

We Shoot People - Night photo walk #3 - City of London
12th November 2014 - 0 comments
Week 3 of the series of night street photography walks with the Meetup group WE SHOOT PEOPLE !

This week the event took us to The City of London. Meeting at Bank station just outside The Royal Bank of England on a cold November evening. The City of London is a great location with a lot of historic architecture, light and side alleys that make for some very noir images. From there I took them to the infamous Leadenhall Market area, Lloyds building and than onto Liverpool Street to finish off the evening with a pub social. See some of the Meetup group's uploaded images from this walk.

Here's my favourite shot taken from the evening....

On the next walk #4 on 26th November 2014 I have arranged a night photo walk to Covent Garden, Seven dials & Leicester Square.
